Arcbound Update #9
Storytelling, JoJo Siwa, and Being Ordinary
A LETTER FROM THE FOUNDERS
A good story can change everything.
In the justice-themed episode of Apple TV+’s Gutsy, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton join actress Mariska Hargitay for a workshop with The Moth, a New York City-based non-profit dedicated to the art of storytelling. The instructor of their workshop, Anna Roberts, starts by telling the women that “storytelling…is really about a transformation in your life.”
An authentic story can do wonders for the person telling it, but it doesn’t stop there. Stories create space for connection and community, especially with people you’ve never met before.
People have always been storytellers, using them to pass on histories that might otherwise never be known. Thus, even if you don’t think you’re a storyteller, you are. It’s in the fabric of humanity.
When we think about creating a personal brand with someone, we prioritize two things: their story, and the community it will build. Sharing your authentic self attracts people who will be impacted by your experiences, and who want to learn from you (and maybe even teach you a thing or two).
Creating a community with your story isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. And over the last several years, it has become even more important to open yourself to authentic connections with others. Whether online or in person, those connections strengthen who you are as a leader, and as a human being.
We know from experience that sharing your story won’t just heal you, it could heal someone else too. And we love helping you make that happen.

FEATURED ARC
An Unboxed Life: Jesyka Harris
Jesyka Harris is a fashion model, attorney, TV host, avid traveler, mom, and human rights advocate based in Los Angeles. After receiving her law degree from Columbia Law School to further her career as a Human Rights Advocate, Jesyka landed a full time job at a prominent law firm in LA. While juggling her work with her passion for fashion and dance, Jesyka’s life mantra became “breaking out of boxes and leaving your labels behind,” and she began to use social media to help other women develop confidence and persevere.
Jesyka’s passion for instilling confidence in women derives from her own insecurities while growing up. Born of mixed race ethnicity in an interracial family, Jesyka grew up feeling as though she didn’t “fit” into any box: racially or aesthetically. This was reflected in her real life as well as in the lack of diversity in the fashion industry. It wasn’t until college, when Jesyka found herself in an accepting and diverse environment, that she understood how to love every aspect of herself, especially her big curly hair. Now that the fashion industry has opened up to a diversity of body types, hair types, and skin types, Jesyka has become a mentor and unofficial agent for younger models.
Jesyka remains a pro bono attorney for domestic violence victims, victims of housing fraud, and other special cases with Public Counsel, and is involved with Shelter Partnership, Inc. which actively addresses causes of homelessness and provides assistance in Los Angeles County. Jessica uses her platform to encourage women to embrace their natural talents and natural beauty, learn how to live healthy, and reach their fullest potential.
ARCBOUND HAPPENINGS
Memoirs of an Ordinary Guy by Daniel Stuart Olmes
By most measures, Daniel Olmes is an ordinary guy—but he’s learned how to live an extraordinary life. In Memoirs of an Ordinary Guy, Daniel asserts that we are all capable of being extraordinary and redefines what it means to be just another ordinary person. He is living proof that extraordinary is there for all of us. It doesn’t mean rich or famous. It doesn’t mean better. To Daniel, “extraordinary” means grateful, honest, happy, loving, fearless, and faithful. Doing extraordinary things is not what makes us extraordinary. Being extraordinary is having an extraordinary perspective on our lives and the things that happen to us. Daniel’s narrative will inspire everyone to view their lives differently, remind us of the stories that we all share, and spark a renewed curiosity about a world that’s anything but ordinary.
