Arcbound Update #17
Money, Love, Self-Esteem, and a Thank You
A LETTER FROM THE FOUNDERS
Our most recent milestone calls for a thank you
Two men hunch over a marble-topped table in a crowded Brooklyn cafe, protecting their coffees against the errant limbs of the crowd around them.
They’re attempting to make small talk, but the younger one is struggling to stay in the conversation. He is $20,000 in credit card debt from trying to finance his vision, despite it not being fully formed. “Four years from now, you’ll be a member of Entrepreneurs’ Organization,” the older man has just told him, but the younger man can’t wrap his head around it. With just a few clients and only $4,000 in monthly revenue, it feels impossible.
The older man leans closer. “Bryan,” he says, rapping his fingers on the table to make sure he has the younger man’s attention. “Are you going to be a one-man consulting firm your whole life, or are you going to build a real business?”
When Arcbound’s CEO, Bryan Wish, and David Schnurman, former President of Entrepreneurs’ Organization and CEO of Lawline, parted ways that day nearly five years ago, Bryan also left with homework: Cameron Herold’s vivid vision exercise. It was that exercise and the conversation between Bryan and David that set Arcbound on its current trajectory.
When you’re building a new business—even if it’s your third or fourth—guidance and mentorship from other entrepreneurs is invaluable. Because of David’s advice and expertise, Arcbound has been able to build multiple service arms, get out in front of hires, and bring on a fair number of small contracts.
David’s prediction came true. Last week, Arcbound joined Entrepreneurs’ Organization.
In order to help you build your arc, we must also build our own, which is why we’re so excited to be part of the amazing global network that comes with Entrepreneurs’ Organization. It’s also why we continue to take David’s advice, such as pursuing executive coaching with Mark Green, who has been instrumental in helping Arcbound make sharp decisions that help us build for growth and scale.
Given David’s role in setting Arcbound up to eventually join Entrepreneurs’ Organization, we felt it was important to say thank you and promise that we’ll pay it forward—with our clients, with our team, with future businesses just like us, and with every hungry entrepreneur who needs a little extra help to get started.
Everyone needs someone like David, who will push them out of their comfort zone and stand nearby with open arms in case they fall. Because David did that for Bryan, now Arcbound can do it for you.

Money and Love: An Intelligent Roadmap for Life's Biggest Decisions by Myra Strober & Abby Davisson
Should I move in with this person? Should I quit my job? When is the “right time” to have another child? All these life-altering questions at the juncture of money and love can be overwhelming. Often, we answer them either by staying overly rational or by only listening to our – at times fickle – hearts. Hardly ever, when faced with daunting questions, do we have the keys to combine both head and heart in a balanced and fulfilling way.
Labor economist and Stanford Professor Emerita Myra Strober and social innovation leader Abby Davisson know that in our daily lives money and love are interdependent. Whereas most decision-making guides focus only on one or the other, Money and Love shows us and our loved ones how to consider them jointly using the original, step-by-step 5Cs method:
CLARIFY: Consider what you want vs. don’t through self-reflection.
COMMUNICATE: Include input from those who will be impacted by your decisions in your decision-making process.
CHOICES: Broaden your perspectives to open up your options.
CHECK IN: Ask around for advice, guidance, and resources.
CONSEQUENCES: Consider the effects of your decisions and how that may impact all aspects of your life.
At a time when we are experiencing the most significant shift in work-life balance in decades – marked by remote work, the Great Reshuffle, and a mass reconfiguring of family dynamics and social/professional networks – Strober and Davisson’s framework offers simple and effective steps to empower readers to make the best strategic decisions without having to sacrifice their careers or personal lives.
That's Bold of You by Case Kenny
Have you ever been called “too much” or told to “be realistic?” Do you exude a passion for life that makes you feel misunderstood, weird, or out of place?
From best-selling author Case Kenny, That’s Bold of You is a call to unlearn the labels society has put on you - difficult, sensitive, intimidating, crazy, too loud, too quiet, too independent, etc. - and embrace being your own version of “too much.” That’s the part of you that speaks loud and clear to your uniqueness and your willingness to express who you are. It’s the source of your self-esteem, your individuality, your standards, and what brings you joy… and it’s time to reclaim its power.
It’s time to say goodbye to “sorry” and pressure to conform, and, instead, emphatically embrace what makes you different and bold.
